Re: Moving to do DClinPsy

You might well find a cat-friendly peer on training, or someone who has a pet that means you can form a reciprocal arrangement. But there are paid services to come in and feed/play with/walk animals in most towns too. So I'm sure you'll come up with something.

Re: which MSc?

I'm not sure why you need an MSc if you have a first. Why not go gain some experience and save the money, unless you really strongly want to study that topic?

Re: What justifies your belief that CP is the right career for you?

It sounds like you really love your work Miriam. I definitely do find a lot of the work rewarding and interesting. I think it is my sitting in the uncertainty of a) not knowing if/when I would get on the course and therefore b) not knowing whether I am actually moving forward or doomed to obscurity...

Re: What should I do next?

Hi, this post was in the wrong section (it isn't about cpd events) so I've moved it. It also had a generic title, so I've edited that. Take a look at our pinned guidance on how to use the forum (also linked from your welcome message) to understand why. As to the question, I agree with northernlad. Y...

Re: Registering with HCPC- International Route

To put that in context, you have the typical level experience of a British applicant for doctoral training. If you were eligible for equivalence so would thousands of other applicants be, and nobody would bother doing doctoral training!!! Look at our "what experience did you have when you got onto t...

Re: Escaping IAPT

Some clinical courses would be fine with that, including those with assessment days, and you have little to lose by applying. But there are cbt therapist posts and more general therapist posts that you could apply for. I'd check third sector and private organisations as well as nhs jobs and apply fo...

Clinical psychology forum?
Or a practise publication for your client group?
Or failing that we'd put it in Aspire.

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. I have a cold. I also have people to interview on Friday, a planning appeal to submit and two grant applications to complete by the end of the month. My brain is not up to the task. 2. We also have cats who make our lives better for being around. Three brothers we adopted a year ago. The biggest ...

Re: AP, but with no intention of qualifying?

That's a different thing. I think most qualified CPs identify with the challenge of the early career stages and try to be helpful supportive about creating the steps into the profession for promising candidates. And it is typical to have aspirations to train in CP as a job requirement for an AP post...

Re: What justifies your belief that CP is the right career for you?

I've loved my career every step of the way. I've always found it such a privilege to be given a window into other people's experiences, and such an interesting riddle to help untangle what is going on for them and how they can make positive change. The fact I can earn a living doing that rather than...

Its a lot more relevant than an admin role, so I'd definitely see it as a positive step.

Re: Assistant Psychologist & other posts Child & Family, Matlock

We've had a couple of queries about whether this has closed or not, but we've been super busy with other things, so I wanted to give any last minute applicants until 6pm tomorrow to get applications in before we finalise all the interviews.

If you read the Power Threat Meaning framework, or some of the Psychologists for Social Change stuff you'll see that whilst we can make impact by working with how clients think and behave (and have amazing impact in even very simplistic or short interventions sometimes) there are some things we can'...

Re: How to get involved in research and publishing as an AP

I published quite a lot of papers as an AP, as I had a mainly research role, and I've managed to publish (or at least present at conferences) with APs I've supervised with a reasonable success rate since. I think my main strategy is just about picking things that are service evaluations and not rese...
