Re: WARNING - SLV Intl / SLVolunteers / Sri Lanka placements

I just found a blog that captures my concerns about the seductive simplicity of solving international problems , rather than the mundane complexity of solving problems in our own country. I'd agree with the author about the fact that not only are people naive about what they can achieve in other cul...

Re: AP, but with no intention of qualifying?

AP posts are mainly designed as stepping stones towards clinical, and not many people who could secure a competitive graduate position like that would be satisfied with the low salary and lack of autonomy in the long term. But I've known one or two people who just loved the hands on nature of the jo...

Re: Superstitions

Saying "bless you" when you sneeze is just a superstition, but it feels weird to sneeze with someone else present and remain unblessed!

Re: Clients answering phone during session

Indeed, I'd ask with genuine curiosity whether they were expecting an urgent call and why they took a non-urgent one, as it seems like avoiding or devaluing the thing they are actually there to do.

Re: Better BME representation in clinical psychology

There are issues with xenophobia (that include the reaction to white eastern European immigrants) and with religious intolerance (that include antisemitism towards white people who have Jewish heritage, for example) but I'm not sure they are racism per se. It is easy to see the small impacts of prej...

Thanks. That's a helpful comment.

I guess I assumed that most people who sign in use "read new posts" to see everything added since their last visit like I do. But I think we've mentioned it on our twitter/facebook too.

Re: UCL or Sheffield?

I've heard only positive things about both of them. I guess there is practical stuff about course size (18 vs 42), cost of living and whether you want to spend the next three years in London with its great density and diversity of people. Some people would love being at the heart of the capital, wit...

That sounds interesting, Geishawife. Are there any papers or known speakers on that topic?

It would also be nice to get more votes - unless the low vote numbers represent apathy towards the idea?

If it has a publisher or a copyright mark then it isn't free to use. If you google it and can find where to buy it, it isn't free. If none of the above apply, but it is published in a journal article and you ask the author for permission it might be free to use. Likewise if it is marked as free to u...

Re: Planned site downtime

Okay, we are back up and running, so I've edited the announcement above. However, it may not be a perfect and fully functional build yet, and we might still need to tweak the settings to block those Russian bots. For example, I can see we don't have the full features of the live chat back up yet, an...

Re: Problems with the Forum

I think we will have to have some planned down time to upgrade the software and migrate to the new server. We are just preparing for that as best we can, so the site is down for the least amount of time possible. In the meanwhile, it would be really helpful to know what browsers people are using whe...
