Re: 3rd wave therapies

To me the question is kind of like do we actually use the things we learn as toddlers in the rest of our lives? Surely the basics are what allow you to build the more detailed and specialist skills on top. So without understanding early research about reinforcement and learning, we'd not have behavi...

Re: Help! I need some advice

I was thinking of HI therapist or some kind of back up option. ... it will be easier to progress as a HI therapist. There is PWP training route but I do not think I have the substantial experience required and i do not want to self fund Maybe I'm getting muddled here, but HI is a higher tier of IAP...

Re: Problems with the Forum

Our techie tells us that we had some Russian bots creating high demands on the site that we have now blocked. As was posted earlier, we have a known technical issue with the server, but we are hoping we can last out until the end of application season before having a planned outage to migrate to a b...

Re: Your advice about my career - strange situation

Indeed. Plenty of courses don't look at academic marks at all, beyond GBC, and use assessments for their selection process. Others consider an MSc/publication/PhD to compensate in showing academic ability. You just need to target your applications well, and look outside of London!

Re: Interview structure

It might be that in the "interview addressing your academic, research and clinical skills" they don't also address personal qualities and reflections. That might be in another part of the process (such as a service user panel, or a separate interview), or be considered to show through in other ways.

Re: Deferring place due to pregnancy? Can anyone help?!

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who has commented. I have addressed things with the course now- I confirmed in the one e-mail that I accepted the place and also told them about the pregnancy and said that I would need therefore to discuss options. I’m glad I did because it is a great we...

Do you not get that information by reference to the manual, published paper or author of the measure?

Re: Career help needed!

I'd suggest that you get someone independent to look at your application form, as that sounds like great experience so I can only assume you are selling yourself short. I wouldn't divert from your career aspirations if it is something as simple as getting the form right!

Re: Deferring place due to pregnancy? Can anyone help?!

Accept the place, and then you have legal protection for being pregnant and a right to take maternity leave that the course will just have to work around. Legally they can't withdraw an offer on the basis of pregnancy or maternity leave , as it is a protected characteristic, so make sure the discuss...

I don't understand this. Surely the day it becomes indefinite leave to remain you are eligible for the course?

Agreed. Although I'd argue that getting research published is possible, and more a matter of effort and networking than cost.

Re: Any good summer psychology schemes?

There are some internships and placements, and they are sometimes listed here, but these aren't a coherent scheme, they are just certain organisations and employers who have decided to offer this. You might just need to contact lots of CPs in your area offering to volunteer for that period of time a...

Re: Counselling psychologist - is it a realistic career?

With regard to the figures, if 900 counselling psychs are in training, I'd guess that about 200 qualify per year, because of the higher drop-out rate, and tendency to spread the training over a longer period. I suspect there will also be a higher proportion of people who qualify, but don't go on to ...

Re: Why so many questions w/ hundreds of views and no answer

Genuinely curious as someone new to this site. Surely there aren't just hundreds of lurkers who know very little about CP? Do you mean the wiki? That's a reference set of posts that are constantly updated. We don't have many posts that have no answers, unless they are just informational. If you cli...
