Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

This has been a topic of considerable discussion for the last few years. My own take is that that there are significant systemic issues of racism, class and poverty at play that come into effect long before application. Here are some figures that came out of the discussion late last year that people...

Re: Help me fix my covering letter to get that first AP position

As far as I know there is no graduate membership for those without GBC. If you are registered with the BPS as a graduate member your degree has already been assessed as meeting the standards of GBC but it might be helpful to state this clearly. https://www.bps.org.uk/join-us/membership/graduate-memb...

Some Courses No Longer Accepting (GBC) Accredited PgDips

I was very surprised to see that some courses no longer accept non master level BPS accredited conversion courses. This appears peculiar as the BPS has assessed these courses as reaching a standard such that their graduates can apply for GBC. I don't recall any discussion of this and am unsure of th...

Re: Working in Ireland after UK Doctorate

From my own perspective the difficulty may arise due the way the different systems are set up e.g. days on placement vs competency. So for example, the guidance on the minimum criteria in regard to intellectual disability says “Currently the majority of Intellectual disability services are structure...

Re: Working in Ireland after UK Doctorate

Hi Gil90, I looked into this before but never figured it out. There are a number of things to bear in mind. a) Legal Registration for psychologists is not yet required in Ireland but may statutory registration is planned under the deparment of health (CORU). b) The PSI is not a regulatory body for p...

Re: Edinburgh doctorate - Location of placements

Hi, How long are the teaching blocks for? I understand that there is one weeks orientation followed by a teaching block before placement sometime in November but as I'm trying to book accommodation in Edinburgh (I'll be based in Aberdeen) I'd like to have some idea of how long to book it for. What w...

Systematic Review Protocol Publication

Hi Folks, I'm currently drawing up a protocol for a systematic review. For those of you who have been through this process before can you recommend any publishers or repositories who don't cost the earth. The review aims to develop a model and conduct a concept analysis of a form of intervention. Un...

Re: Edinburgh cohort 2014

Hi Folks, I though I should make contact. The shock of getting in is beginning to wear off at this stage and the excitement is starting to mount. I'm also Irish and will be working in Aberdeen as part of the unaligned stream. Despite knowing how pointless it is this far in advance of the start date ...
