Re: teaching experience

Definitely worth offering to help the clinical staff if you could help or get involved in teaching masters students. Also worth having a chat with your supervisor about it who may be aware of opportunities.

Re: teaching experience

Can you get some teaching assistant / demonstrator experience in your university as a PhD student? My department had a lot of opportunities for PhD students to get involved in which I think is fairly standard, as departments are often quite dependent on PhD students to support their teaching, markin...

Re: Supervising PhDs while training

I think the role of second supervisor varies a lot in terms of how much of time commitment it is. I have friends whose first supervisor is really unavailable so they rely far more on their second supervisor, other supervisory teams will give more equal input, others maybe see their second supervisor...

The NIHR offer fellowships to support PhD study for clinicians, so that might be worth looking at-

Re: No response rate in survey study

Don't be too disheartened- rejection rates are high but that doesn't mean you won't be able to publish it elsewhere. Make sure you acknowledge it as a limitation and then try another journal. My last paper was rejected from four journals before finally getting accepted- it just took some persistence...

Re: Clinical research coordinator vs research assistant

I’ve worked as a project coordinator and research assistant. As project coordinator, I was responsible for study set up, ethics, managing the research team, managing recruitment, report writing etc. So it was a lot more responsibility than my RA role. In the RA role I was mostly doing data collectio...

Re: Overqualified - rejected for honorary AP post

While that is obviously really disappointing, you should be encouraged by this. This feedback suggests you are in a good position for paid AP posts and it is probably your applications that need some work- have you had someone look over your AP applications? And have you tried applying for AP posts ...

Re: Off sick during fourth week of new job

Sorry to hear you are unwell. Stay off until you are well. It depends on their policy, but everywhere I've worked counts the periods of absence rather than the number of days - so taking one day off or one week off, is recorded as a single absence. So it can actually end up worse on your sickness re...

Re: Publication Issues

I'd drop them an email first to ask if they can give you a timeframe for how long it will take, then decide whether to withdraw it or not.

I think this is all great advice, regardless of the position and organisation. If there is a person spec, shortlisters will be marking you against this.

Re: working alongside PhD

I am working 14 hours a week alongside my full time PhD. It's just about manageable at the minute but definitely plan to cut down my hours or finish work entirely by my final year. So it is do-able, but I do work at evenings/weekends to keep up with my PhD work. Ive found lots of opportunities for e...

Congrats on being in this position! I think both will put you in a strong position for a DClin application. DClin application aside, which post are you most excited about?

Re: Two Job Offers in Similar Areas plus Research Assistant

How prepared are you to commute? Personally, anything over a 1 hour commute is too much for me, and I think I would've really struggled with this especially when I was a support worker (with unsociable hours and really quite demanding work - although support work does vary a lot). So I'd go for the ...

Re: Inclusion of IPA transcripts in PhD thesis

Any qual thesis examples I've seen have either not included the transcripts, or at most include one as an example. I can't imagine an examiner wanting to see them all. I think the rationale to include one as an example of how you did the analysis sounds reasonable. I can't see what including them al...
