Reference from a Counselling Psychologist

Dear Colleagues, Quick question: although I have been consistently supervised by clinical psychologists in my previous posts, currently I am supervised by a counselling psychologist. I wonder how I should best manage this: if I chose an old referee that may look awkward (why would I not choose my cu...

Re: Publications and Dissemination section

I think that all of those topics can be seen as dissemination of your work as service development opportunities, service evaluation and audit are highly important and part of the core competences of a clinical psychologist. Obviously I'm no expert and you shouldn't just make things up, but I manage...

Re: University of Surrey 2020 Entry: Online Q&A

Hello,

Thank you for this opportunity.

My question is: how do you rate a candidate's academic ability? What is the proportional weight given to school, undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications?

Thank you.

Re: Publications and Dissemination section

I am on the doctorate and still have no publications - or even conference presentations/posters. I don't explicitly know of anyone on my cohort who has. I included public engagement work I have done (e.g. giving talks at local community groups), along with any within-service dissemination of my wor...

Publications and Dissemination section

Dear Colleagues,

Do you know of anyone who was offered a place on the doctorate without having publications?
Also, other than conference presentations/posters, what other dissemination work have you included (or you think it would be appropriate to include) in this section?

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

Maven wrote: the norm is for people in their mid and late twenties to be in the majority on courses, and any older candidate has to be mindful about whether they'd feel comfortable within that peer group. Many later life career changers choose counselling psychology training for this reason, and th...

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

This is really interesting, and all I can offer is my experience as a white female and *ahem older than most * applicant ( I also identify as LGBT but didn’t discuss this anywhere in my application as to me it wasn’t particularly relevant). I found that all the negativity and discouragement was way...

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

Older applicants are able to fully understand what the profession involves! They are not obtuse. They are simply considering this career option after having explored other ones. For a reason or another. I believe the knowledge and life experience learnt along the way of such alternative career paths ...

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

Comparative percentages indicate that the older u get, the less likely u are selected. I am pretty sure multivariate analysis would confirm it.

Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

Can someone explain to me the skewness of these official data?
https://www.leeds.ac.uk/chpccp/equalopp ... U7h1dVxjos

There seems to be some clear issues with recruiting a diverse trainee cohort here.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Rejected due to my childhood trauma

Dear JB99, Thank you so much for having put time and effort in replying to me! I really appreciate it. In answer to your question: The reason why I mentioned this is because they asked 'what my childhood was like and what life events motivated me to wanting to become a CP'. So I could lie and make u...
