Re: Can I make it?

I am not really sure how to reply individually but thank you to everyone who has replied, to answer the question of " why the rush?", that is more about my viewpoint of the world and my upbringing. If i dont get in straight away, i will feel like a failure and it won't be looked upon favourably in ...

Re: Psychology Degree Advice

Hi Best advice, I can give you is to make use of the youtube and resources outside of the university as they can be a bit "behind" the times and keep active in the forums. I would be VERY wary of relying on Youtube! Whilst I would fully support the notion of reading widely and adding to "set texts"...

Re: Am I doing the right thing ?

Geishawife has beat me to saying worrying about AP posts is premature and pointless - you might never need one, but even if you decide to go that route it is a couple of years away. I'm curious why you've taken such a circuitous course, via an unrelated undergrad, then an MA in counselling and psych...

Re: Worried about my disability

Its a legal requirement that every employer makes reasonable adjustment for disabilities. The NHS and academia are usually better at this than most other employers, and I'd be horrified if a clinical course was not able to let you have days off for appointments, as well as helping you plan how you w...

This may be true generally, but it doesn't reflect my own experience.
That right there is the difference between anecdote and evidence. Much better to base your beliefs and plans on the latter, but easy to be misled by the former.

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

Not being part of a university cohort where you can get advice from your university or your peers on what to do is also a barrier. It's also difficult to pursue something where you can spend years trying with no success - a younger person may be able to apply 5 or 6 times before eventual success bu...

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

Comparative percentages indicate that the older u get, the less likely u are selected. I am pretty sure multivariate analysis would confirm it. I don't know if such discrimination is allowed any more, but I've always heard that the bias against older applicants is because the older you get the less...

Re: Experience advice

It is the amount of experience stated on the application, at the time of short-listing, not the amount by the time the course would start. However, your RA work would probably count if the research was related to psychology, and you might also make the criterion if the other stuff added up to the sa...

Re: Do I have a shot at getting onto a clinical psychology course with these grades?

I'd say that realistically rules out about 2/3 of courses, and means you will have an uphill struggle to compete for interviews. It might be that with brilliant experience or a great performance on the assessment tasks used in selection by some courses it is possible, but like hawke I'd be concerned...

Re: A career in Psych research

Not all research is in academia. There are corporate research posts, posts in the NHS and social care organisations, and posts within charitable and social enterprise organisations - so the only question is whether you can find posts you feel are psychological enough to fit your interests. However, ...

Re: Online therapy or remote psychology jobs

Lots of services are emerging offering this for free, staffed by volunteers. I can't say that it uses the full skills of a therapist, or should be done without specific training for this modality of work. But I can't see it as a way to make money as a qualified CP.

Re: Are there any part-time voluntary roles that count as sufficient prior experience to the doctorate?

You've got some rather strange misconceptions about what experience is relevant. There is no reason that a research role in a project related to clinical psychology couldn't use your current skills, pay well and count as relevant experience, whilst the idea that you could just do a bit of volunteeri...
