I got a 2:2 or a low 2:1. What can I do?
First, we need to acknowledge this is a big setback. It might be time to review whether clinical psychology is the right career path for you. If you are still determined it is, then brace yourself for significant additional hurdles to overcome. Grade inflation means that most courses require a high ...

Re: Teaching on therapeutic alliance
Sounds interesting. I think the Feedback Informed Treatment model promoted by Scott D Miller might be relevant, as they get clients to rate their perception of whether the therapist has connected with them and is working on the right stuff at the end of each session, and see this as a chance to impr...

15 done, so I've caught up with my email and will respond to the remaining PMs. Last call for anyone planning to send me their form to review, as I'll close this thread at the end of the week.

Good time to travel (covid restrictions permitting), read novels, give time to projects or hobbies. If you are moving for the course you can work out the practicalities about relocating also!

Re: Unsuccessful application? Want a post-mortem of your form?
I've done 11 now, 4 forms are waiting in my email for me to look at, and there are 4 PMs that I haven't replied to yet. I think next year I will limit this to people who have been a member of the forum for at least 3 months and made at least 3 prior posts, as I've had a lot of very impatient people ...

Now there are 9 done, 1 person has sent me their form and is waiting for my response, and I have replied to 10 more people who have sent a PM. There are 4 people I haven't replied to yet, but I've now got spaces in my inbox if anyone else wants to opt in.

Re: Dclin interviews. How much are we expected to know.
Hi all, I have two interviews coming up soon, and have been preparing by reflecting on difficult cases, NHS issues etc. However, I've come across a few posts online recently (not necessarily on this forum) where people are talking about learning how to formulate using at least 2 models (CBT, system...

Re: Lost British Residency, trapped in bottle neck
Funded training places in the UK increased last year, and this year that increase was maintained and then another increase announced on top, so I think there is a recognition of the need for paid training and increased mental health professionals in light of covid, so I don't see that changing in th...

Re: Proof of driving licence at interview
If a driving license is required by interview and you don't have one, I suspect that you won't be eligible - but check with the relevant course. You chanced your arm ticking the box before you had it in hand, so I don't think lockdown will make any difference compared to someone in previous years fa...

Re: Lost British Residency, trapped in bottle neck
I'm glad the posts so far have felt supportive, and I'm sorry if this one sounds a bit discouraging, but I'd be wary about training elsewhere to work in the UK, if that is your long term goal. The path to equivalence from international qualifications to UK practice is one that is changing over time ...

Re: Is this ethical/ legal? Psychologist title use.
I saw an advertisement for someone who resides and owns a business is in the UK who uses the title ‘registered psychologist’. They are not a registered psychologist in the UK, they are registered in another country where only a bachelor’s degree is necessary (compared to the extensive postgraduate ...

Re: Career change from Intensive-Care Nurse to Clinical Psychology
Thank you! I really appreciate these replies as it has provided me with more hope and confidence that I could achieve this career change. There is a massive gap in my place of work for clinical psychologists; our MDT includes surgeons, anaesthetists, dieticians, OTs, physiotherapists, nurses, but w...

Re: Career change from Intensive-Care Nurse to Clinical Psychology
First, thank you from the bottom of my heart. What you do is amazing, and the nation is indebted to all the NHS staff who provide the emergency, intensive care, community and general practice support for people with covid, and who have kept on providing essential health care services through this ti...

Re: How old is too old for training?
Look at our threads about how long people took to get their place, and how many attempts, and you'll see that longer/more is less common than you'd think. Don't invest your whole life in repeated attempts, make sure you get good feedback and preparation so if you do try again you have improved your...
