Re: Applying with the Double Tick system

My opinion is based on my personal experience, but I stopped using the double tick system for my disabilities a few years ago. You might ask why. In my experience, it meant my form was scrutinised more intently than when I didn't use it. As a result, I found that I didn't get interviews with two tic...

Re: Official guidelines for supervision of Assistant Psychs

Miriam, can I ask what guidelines you are referencing (HCPC/BPS)? I'm having some current disputes about supervision of an AP who people feel only needs supervision fortnightly - I have insisted on weekly and the powers that be are demanding proof. I'm leaving, so this is more for the psychologist w...

Clinical Doctorate and having babies

I did all you described and got onto training at 27, qualified at 30 then babies (32, 34). I too wanted kids in my late 20s - I'm currently on mat leave with no 2 age 35!! So it did all happen a bit later then planned but was fine in the end! Good luck xx

Recieving gifts from clients in a forensic setting

Recieving gifts from clients in a forensic setting

Bless you, I think I would have done just what you did - accepted the gift. But unfortunately prisons can be harsh with often quite punitive staff members (think Zimbardo!) it's true of course that people can be at times controlling/splitting teams etc in such settings but in my opinion often people...

Re: AP interview - location of job not accurate on advert

So frustrating! I turned down a qualified post due to them advertising it as a different job from the one it turned out to be. I told them both at interview and as feedback afterwards that this was why I turned it down. Most infuriating tho, I feel for you.

Re: Anyone with young children?

Absolute respect for doing the course with a baby, I waited til qualified and I still find it really really hard work juggling motherhood with my job. Agree with above posts... You only need to be good enough! Parenthood is tough enough without training too. In my opinion, the course can wait, enjoy...

Sheffield is great if you like holistic, person centred, teaching with an academic edge... but I'm biased!! :D

Is that you I can see on my TV?

Re: Supervision when qualified

I get weekly supervision but I do work in tier 4... don't know if that's the difference? Also there's lots of internal politics so it's supportive to talk thru these issues.

Re: Photographer CRB checked

Thanks all!! I think I'm a tad neurotic about such things working in a forensic setting and combine that with the primal protective instinct I have for my little one and you get the picture! Happy Christmas to you all! (and free new year baby pics for me!) :D

Photographer CRB checked

As many of you know, I've recently had a wonderful baby girl. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the following. A friend of mine told me about a photographer she knows who is completing an art project of pictures of babies. It's a chance to get some free professional pics, so I contacted ...

Re: Asking teenagers awkward questions

In my job working with juvenile sex offenders I have to ask the most intimate questions e.g. Do you know what masturbation is? Do you masturbate? Do you know what porn is? Do you look at porn? Do you know what sex is? Have you had sex? Etc etc. I found it so awkward at first, so I role played conduc...
