Re: Clinical psychology with a learning difficulty?
I don't know much about dyspraxia, but I'm wondering why that person thinks it would affect your ability to do a job? My understanding is that it's primarily a movement disorder? All I can say for sure is that there's at least 2 people on my cohort who have dyslexia, possibly 3, so dyslexia certainl...

Re: How important is placement in Masters?
I would do the one you prefer the sound of. I did a Masters that I thought "would look good on my application" and I hated every minute of it. I should have done one I'd actually enjoy. A placement is a great opportunity, but if that's all that's really attracting you to the course then I'...

It sounds to me that your primary interest in therapy? While that's a large part of what we do as CPs, things are shifting and CPs are moving more towards leadership and service development roles. I'm a final year trainee and there's a tremendous push towards learning leadership skills, doing leader...

I've got that paper for you, mungle, but the PM system won't let me attach it (or anything!) for some reason. If you want to PM me an email address, I'll email it across to you.

Best of luck with it! Living and working in Canada is a fantastic opportunity and experience, so I hope you thoroughly enjoy it. Fingers crossed you can get something clinically relevant, but do keep it in mind that research is also a core skill of Clinical Psychologists so they're as valuable as ea...

Re: Working Abroad
Have you ever actually worked therapeutically? Have you been trained in any specific therapeutic modalities? Would you be able to work as a psychotherapist in the UK at the end of your Masters? If not, I'd wonder why you'd be aiming to work as a psychotherapist in Canada. I looked at the guidelines ...

Re: Working Abroad
Just FYI, when I looked into going to the US, the H-1B visa wouldn't cover my husband. The US is VERY strict about entry, so even if you were married and he got a US passport, you wouldn't be guaranteed anything. I worked as both a research assistant and subsequently a psychometrist in Vancouver. It...

Re: Working Abroad
I might be able to offer some guidance. I lived and worked in Vancouver for two years following my MSc, and I looked into going to the US. I'll start with the US, because it's harder. Essentially, you would need your own visa, separate to your partner. You get these by being sponsored by an employer...

Re: Applying for 2019 Clinical Doctorate
Usually the first responses with regard to interviews start being released around Valentine's day - my guess is either the week of the 11th or the week of the 18th this year (but possibly more likely to be the 11th, as the following week is half-term which is when a lot of staff will take leave). Th...

When do you plan on going? Autumn in Japan is FABULOUS!!! Well, Japan is fabulous full stop!! Won't be cheap though, as the rugby World Cup is on this autumn! I'm doing a trip around Australia and New Zealand to celebrate the end of mine. If I wasn't doing that though, I'd 100% do a week (or two......

Re: Opinions on using notes in an interview
I agree with Maven. Nobody likes interviews but they shouldn't be causing an individual such a degree of distress either. Have you tried doing mock interviews, or just role-playing them? It might even be helpful to role-play it from the perspective of the interviewer, to get a sense of what it feels...

Re: Need help gathering dissertation material.
I agree with lingua. At this stage, you'd probably be better off going back to the start and designing a new project than wasting more time looking for something that may not exist. It sounds like you're early in your academic career, and it's a shame you didn't get better supervision around the fea...

Re: Need help gathering dissertation material.
What did your supervisor suggest when considering whether the project was feasible?
I can only think of documentaries like Making a Murderer where Steven Avery was initially convicted of a crime he didn't commit, but I'm not sure there's video evidence of those interviews.

Re: Working in the UK with an Irish DClinPsy
Should be very straightforward. It's actually harder for a UK graduate to get accredited to work in Ireland as the UK LD placements aren't generally split. Other than that, the core placements and general structure are very similar so you shouldn't have a problem getting HCPC registration, AFAIK.
