Re: Surrey 2013

Sorry to disappoint guys but we didn't find out until like the second or third week of teaching block last year. They have to wait for the supervisors to confirm if they can take trainees etc which takes ages.

Re: First year applying. Aiming high or low?

Not wanting to sound patronising, but all courses are extremely competitive, and I don't think applying to any course would be aiming "low". The courses are not like league tables in undergrad and I'm not sure if any uni's are necessarily more "prestigious" than others. Also, get...

Re: Surrey Feedback

I've been following this thread for a while and thought I'd comment as a 1st year trainee at Surrey. (Disclaimer: my comments do not in any was represent the university of surrey views, they are just my personal opinions) Firstly, I do feel dissapointed at the lack of feedback this year. And I'm rea...

Re: PTSD following a traumatic childbirth delivery?

My auntie specialises in research of this area. This link is quite old - a conference program on this (2006) but If you contact the authors from this conference i'm sure they can direct you to relevant more recent papers - (email addresses at bottom) (researchers love being emailed about their paper...

Re: New Clinical Doctorate Applications 2012-2013.

To me the successful thread has a purpose - you can see the type of experiences people had who were successful, I didnt find it anxiety provoking, I found it useful and it gave me ideas of sort of work I could do. Whereas I don't think these posts have the same aspects that are useful as it's not su...

Re: New Clinical Doctorate Applications 2012-2013.

I don't think the way this thread has progressed is particularly helpful. I think that prospective applicants comparing each others experience in this way is just anxiety provoking and might make people think -"im nowhere near as good as these people" when actually they are and i'm not sur...

Re: Assistant Primary Care Mental Health Worker vs AP/RA - a

A friend of mine got on to training this year with 2 years experience as a support worker for a private company so i don't think selectors dismiss those jobs, and I think they are usually good stepping stones to an AP post- I wouldn't have got my previous job without doing the support work. I guess ...

Re: Assistant Primary Care Mental Health Worker vs AP/RA - a

Hi! Congrats on your degree! Unfortunately a career in CP is a long slog, and alot of people are in a similar position to you but with added Ap/RA/NHS experience... If I were you I would get my foot in the door with the NHS support job and then apply for AP posts later. If you solely apply for AP/ R...

Re: What does your other half do?

The engineer/ tech trend is spooky! My ex was an engineer! But my current and nicer boyfriend is a gym manager! (but he is good at maths lol) My friend who is a forensic psych goes out with an engineer And my old supervisor husband is an engineer! Or could we just compare this to cold reading - wher...

Re: unsuccessful applications experiences?

Although I have not been successful yet, I can think of, from both observations, and a few experiences which may hinder progress. Not sure whether it is relevant:- Lack of academic reference - (2.i is not good enough on its own - need to have attended lectures and bonded with someone who will provi...

Re: unsuccessful applications experiences?
