Re: Which Masters course to choose

Not necessarily. With London weighting it ended up better (financially) for me to go into an RA role, which is also what I wanted. Of course it depends on the masters you pick too, you can get good discounts too if you’re alumni. What you just said isn’t really a reason to not do a masters. This all...

Re: Which Masters course to choose

I agree that many other entry level posts don’t require it. It depends on the individuals situation. I personally knew I couldn’t afford to take an AP post or similar banded position so went to RA posts instead, and I know many people who have done so for the same reason. But I’d argue that actually...

Re: Which Masters course to choose

To my memory, nobody we've ever interviewed while i've been in post hasn't had a masters, because having one scores you extra 'points' I had a wonderful conversation with a trust today about moving away from using this points for privilege approach in order to stop reinforcing the structural inequa...

Re: Which Masters course to choose

You don't need a masters for any of the first step posts, and they shouldn't be hard to secure if you look outside the NHS. There are tons of vacancies in care work (with older people, people with learning disabilities, looked after children, etc), support work, healthcare assistant, classroom assi...

Re: Disappointment and rejection 2020 megathread

From 2011-2020 I have applied every year and never received one interview from any university. I've lurked the forum for years and this is my first post. I Just wanted to add to this thread in case there are others like me who are veterans at the application process and who share similar feelings o...

Re: Paperwork for starting in 2020

It seems to depend on the course. I received my conditional offer from the IoPPN about a week ago, some of my cohort have their unconditional ones now. My OH checks etc have been completed too. But likewise I know people with offers from other courses who have received very little info on this so far.

Re: Reserve list for places 2020

Hi, thank you for responding and letting me know. Congratulations on your place! That is of course sad to hear, did you call them to enquire as I haven't had a response to my email from a few weeks ago? Thank you! I tried calling but no answer as everyone’s working remotely, so I had to email. They...

Re: Reserve list for places 2020

Hi everybody, I'm on the reserve list for UEA and was wondering if anyone has received any communication from the university about the extra commissioned places? Would appreciate any info on this. I contacted them yesterday to enquire (as I have an offer now elsewhere) and they said they sent out t...

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread

Congratulations on getting a place at IoPPN. Can I just asked whether you were offered a place with spaces from additional funding for this year? I was told that they had filled all their places as everyone who was initially offered a place accepted. Thank you! Yes it was an extra place. I got an e...

Re: What experience did you have when you got on training?

I can't believe I'm finally posting here after so long! I will be 27 years old when I start clinical training and 28 the following day . Hoping my experience can provide some hope to those who have made multiple applications. At the time of applying I had... My experience: - 10 months FTE RA in...

Re: How many years after graduation before you got on the course

For me it's been quite a long journey, and will be starting 6 years after graduating from my BSc. Despite getting a reasonably high 2.1, I always wanted to do a masters so spent an extra year studying before starting work in clinical research. While at the start I certainly hoped to get a place soon...

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread

I can't quite believe i'm saying this...after my 7th application and three reserves for places, and when I was sooo close to giving up. IOPPN ----> IOPPN UEA UCL (started 11th reserve) ---> UCL Essex Over the past few weeks i've been applying to 'plan B's' and it's finally happened. It's so tempting...

Re: Reserve list for places 2020

I’m a reserve at UEA. We don’t know our placement, so I’d be very grateful to hear if any news relating to movement on the UEA list!

Congratulations and good luck everyone.
