Re: Increased number of training places

Just to be clear, there are 140 new places between clinical psychology and child psychotherapy training courses coming this year. Not all are clinical psychology places. And there is a focus on diversity tied into them. It is not yet clear how many places are going to be created, how they will fulfi...

Re: Qualified career progression

I just posted this on another thread, so I probably should say I don't have any financial interest in doing so and other coaches are available, but the guy I found helpful when redirecting my career was http://www.flexiblethinking.co.uk/ and he is currently offering discounted rates for health staff...

Re: Failed DClinPsy - what next?

The guy who did my life coaching to help me make career decisions is also offering reduced rate sessions for health staff during coronavirus. If that is of interest, his website is here: http://www.flexiblethinking.co.uk/

Re: Youth Justice Worker

It is an interesting role, and the training will set you up for a career in the justice system, or perhaps in the prison service, or as an indirect route to forensic psychology. It isn't entirely unrelated to psychology. However, for a commitment of over a year, there are probably loads of posts mor...

Re: Please help, I know it’s a stupid question!

Please help, I am only a psychology student and a topic I am doing some research on is eating 🍽 disorders, and in particular what signs and symptoms or what they say. I know this isn’t a demanding question, but please answer and help me? I'm afraid it is a question for which you need to search on G...

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread

Did anyone have an interview at Staffordshire and can tell me whether the panel interview is clinical based or academic? Hi there, I don't mean this to sound finger-waggy but Staffs specifically ask candidates not to share any details of the interview. You can probably find any info you might want ...

Re: Career change into Clinical Psychology

I don't think you'll be able to secure a relevant post until you have completed your degree and can put the grade on the application. A first will then open doors, but until then it is a fantasy that might not come to fruition from the perspective of a short-lister, so most will reject you at the lo...

Re: Failed DClinPsy - what next?

Likewise, I know several people who have not completed doctoral training, even though they haven't "failed" - they've chosen to do something that fits them better as an individual (whether with a push from the course side or not, I have no way of knowing). Two are people I knew well. I don't know wh...

Stevo hasn't logged in since the day he made the OP, and didn't respond to the comments made that very day. The likelihood of getting a reply over 5 years later seems pretty low to me.

Re: My reflections from this years application

That's great to hear Jason. Letting go a little of that need to be perfect and seeing the doctoral interviews as the test of whether you are good enough can often reduce the stress and put you in a mindset in which you are able to come across more positively. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :)

Re: Qualified career progression

As ever, I agree with Geishawife. There is something about moving on every six months for the 3 years of training that makes it feel weirder and weirder to stay when you have gained some mastery of a locality and its systems, and feel like you have competence with a client group and/or model of work...

Re: Disappointment and rejection 2020 megathread

I think this journey is filled with challenges and rejection, and it can pile on the self-doubt in frustrating amounts. I’m now three years into applying and wondering whether to give up at this point or put myself through yet another rollercoaster of stress! Each year I’ve managed to get an interv...

Re: Struggling to decide between conversion masters

I agree with Geishawife. Follow your gut feeling and the life that you want, not some tick-box idea of what might look better. Likewise the idea of a "doctorate in clinical psychology at a good university" is a bit weird. All clinical doctorates have the same accreditation, and the exact same value ...
