Re: Struggling to decide between conversion masters

I agree with Geishawife. Follow your gut feeling and the life that you want, not some tick-box idea of what might look better. Likewise the idea of a "doctorate in clinical psychology at a good university" is a bit weird. All clinical doctorates have the same accreditation, and the exact same value ...

Re: Good examples of secure care

Thank you Miriam -- do you have the title of the select committee report? I had a look on the website and there are quite a few reports on various aspects of children's social care from 2010 onwards -- is it the 2014 report on Residential Children's Homes, or is there a more recent report? It was l...

Re: Good examples of secure care

The way secure placements are used, and which orders are used, has changed over time - and the nature of private provision for some of the most complex young people in the UK and how the quality of staffing in these settings is a challenge some of us have been quite outspoken about (I'm quoted in th...

Re: What was the point in studying psychology?

I think the view that either you get on or have nothing discounts the achievements and experiences of lots of lovely and talented people. Some of the best CBT practitioners I know wanted to get on the CP course initially and didn’t even apply because they found CBT. Some of my friends have done PhD...

Re: Alternatives to Jordan Peterson

Brene Brown? (she's written quite a few books for mass audiences that are based around compassion) Give and Take by Adam Grant? (I read this and it connected for me) How to live a good life? (I haven't read it, but there is a podcast with a big following and it gets good reviews) Factfulness? (I've ...

Re: Anyone know of any studies on Assistant Psychologist Stress/Wellbeing/Burnout?

Hi Miriam, Thanks for your reply! That sounds like an awfully big dataset! Really interesting area though. I don't pretend to be a stats expert, but I did complete a Masters last year on Psychological Research Methods and would be happy to have a look over the dataset, if that would help? Some of t...

Re: Anyone know of any studies on Assistant Psychologist Stress/Wellbeing/Burnout?

We had a stressometer on the forum for a year, and asked people to rate their stress each time they logged in. We got about 20,000 ratings, and then asked at the end of the year what career stage people were at, if they had applied for training that year, and if so what the outcome had been. I keep ...

Re: Unsuccessful application? Want a post-mortem of your form?

39 done, 3 to go, and I've caught up to those emailed over in the last couple of days. I think my fundraising for the school is now well on the way to our target of purchasing a second interactive whiteboard (I'll have to go back and check the exact figures, but my quick calculations suggest we are ...

Re: Unsuccessful application? Want a post-mortem of your form?

36 down, 5 to go. I'm up to those emailed to me on 22nd April now. I'm going to stop doing these now , unless I've already agreed to. Peanut, send me a PM, you can be the last person. I think 40 is enough for this year, and I want to focus on delivering some webinars during the lockdown that can hav...

Re: Face to face interview amidst pandemic!!

I work in a service that is fully operational still with a lot of staff putting themselves at risk every day, but we aren’t allowing any external visitors and conducting all interviews virtually. Fair enough if you have the job to be going in to work, but personally I don’t feel interviews in perso...

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread

Attempting to cheat and "cheating their way through" are different things, let alone "a potential cohort who entered training because someone helped them". I'd caution against extrapolating from one course saying they have change protocol to prevent cheating because of reports it has been attempted ...

Re: Face to face interview amidst pandemic!!

Well, to play devil's advocate a bit, many keyworkers are continuing to go to work, including in physical and mental health providers, and it might be that this organisation are. It might also be that they have thought a lot about social distancing, and adapting the interview in other ways. You can ...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

I really enjoyed Uprooted! Thank you for the positive post also Miriam, it felt good to read. I just finished it, and it was great. I know lots of reviews dislike how critical the Dragon is of Agnieszka, but I felt like that was well explained by his fear of getting close to anyone, due to his chil...
