Re: High Intensity Trainee Part Time

I don't know specifically about the HI course so this maybe an unhelpful reply - however as a comparison - the clinical doctorate course is a full time course yet many of my peers who took mat leave during the course came back on a part time basis - e.g. just doing the teaching element/thesis or jus...

Re: Another qu for current Surrey trainees!

I'm not a Surrey trainee but in terms of holidays it follows the agenda for change policy: Length of service Annual leave and Public Holiday entitlement On appointment 27 days + 8 days After 5 years' 29 days + 8 days After 10 years' 33 days + 8 days So depending on how much continuous service you ha...

Re: Current Surrey trainees?

I can't speak for Surrey, however from my experience our course asked for preferences on placements - we had a tick list that said what are our priorities ofr each placement - location, supervisor therapuetic approach etc. Some on our course didn't drive and they were accomodated for and the course ...

Re: Where to go from here? I'm feeling quite stuck.

Just a quickie.....What about research posts? clinical audit roles etc....? I assumed research assistant roles were equally as competitive as AP ones, although I have applied to a couple recently. And I was interested in your second point about clinical audits - would something such as a Clinical A...

Re: Applying for DClinPsy during final year undergrad

Hi ANClinPsy, Just a brief comment based on my experience of shortlisting for one course (others will have different criteria etc) The course I shortlisted for this year would not have reviewed your form if you had not completed your undergrad - it would be the first thing that was checked and then ...

Hi Lozzyhickers, While it might not be ideal to start a job and hand in notice quickly these things happen - situations change for all sorts of things - partner's work get relocated, you find out a family member is ill and need more time to help care for them (both reasons I know why people have don...

Re: Viva tips

I have completely blocked mine out to the point I can't remember exactly who my external examiner was!! It wasn't even that awful an event. Part (I can remember this at least) were quite conversationary. It was as people say completely draining. I think the hardest bit for me was not fully loving my...

Re: NHS Continuous Service

Just to add my recent experience to this thread - not really carrying on from the recent discussions but possibly some interesting info for someone else in the future if they search the thread - continuous service means different things for different parts of your contract. So for redundancy - conti...

Re: Sheffield Reserve List 2016

It can be a bit like - 'how long is a piece of string?' Some years reserve lists move lots, others not so much. It may take a while to hear anything from Sheffield as well as they are relatively early in the process so others will be waiting until they have completed interviews elsewhere. Sorry I ca...

Re: Generic Person Specification

Hi Jack, All your experience sounds extremely relevant. Here's the biggest thing; its not about how much experience you have or 'what' the experience is per say but how it has made you a better candidate for training. Reflection here is the key. If I was looking at your application/interviewing I'd ...

Re: Generic Person Specification

Hi Jack, Welcome to the forum, in addition to the guidance you have already found I am sure you will find some useful information here looking around the discussion boards. This might be a useful discussion to look at in terms of giving you some 'real life' examples of what clinical and research exp...

Re: Examples of Clinical Work..

Congratulations on your interviews. I think my general advice would be a short summary setting the scene, with greater focus on outcome/learning/reflection etc. In terms of level - remember they are looking for someone they can train over three years, not someone who has all the answers/could be a c...

Re: Edinburgh additional questions.

I'm not a selector, but am a Clinical Psychologist. Maddy's point about how to answer the question - I would remind everyone that the selection process is not about finding those who already have the skills to be a clinical psychologist - but the skills to become and be trained as a clinical psychol...
