Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. enid I am with you on the training-gives-you-no-time thing! Especially when you now live in two different cities, I basically now live out of a bag. I think this is a good opportunity to flex my minimalist muscles though. 2. And you are definitely not alone on the wobble factor :D I think mine wi...

Re: Edinburgh's Core and Aligned Options

The main difference aside from thesis is that you have to do your third year speciality placement in your alignment - so you do your 4 core placements in 1st and 2nd year (adult, LD, older adult and CAMHS) plus your third year specialist CAMHS placements. Esentially, your first 2 years are the same ...

Re: Edinburgh's Core and Aligned Options

Hi guys, I am an Edinburgh aligned trainee and you don't choose it - you are given it when you are offered a place on training. And it does mean your thesis project needs to be focused on that area. You indicate during the application process if you are willing to do an aligned place, and this may t...

Re: Advice for a career change

I've just had a patient DNA, so I have time to write a reply to this (even though I should really be doign admin) :D I'm 38, and am a 1st year trainee. I had a previous career in academic publishing and started my career change at about 28 - when I started my undersgrad psychology degree so was in m...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. (prompted by lingua_franca) Discovered Siracha hot sauce yesterday, it's vegan and spicy as anything - it was love at first taste :) 2. I might have vegan sausages for tea now. 3. This week I am mainly trying to unlearn all my unhelpful therapist habits, all at once, that might be an unachievable...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. I am utterly exhausted today, am unsure if this is down to lack of sleep, placement travelling or my yoga workout last night (the teacher on the DVD is an ex pr wrestler, it was definitely 'not my momma's' yoga!). Sadly, I don't have a duvet and pillow stashed under my desk else I'd have a lovely...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. First patient as a trainee in half an hour, I have totally over prepared. 2. Driving on all these country roads can't be good for my wee car. I hope it (and I) survive the winter. 3. SNOW! 4. I am excited to try the vegan cheese I got on a baked potato later on, I am optimistic. 5. Yoga, yoga, y...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. On a superficial note, I am rather annoyed after spending an age doing my nails earlier on and the varnish is already flaking off, bah humbug. 2. Got my university card today, so I am now officially a trainee clinical psychology student. Hoorah! 3. Why do I always look like a serial killer in pas...

Re: MSc Psychological Therapy in Primary Care 2016

Thanks - and the key phrase is 'transferable skills' :D I emphasised my project management experience (good at managing multiple priorities, important as a CAAP) and time management skills. Mature students have got a lot to offer, so don't do your experience down! CurlyHair - congrats on achieving y...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. I had 2 cancellations today, win! Managed to catch up on some evil admin which has decreased my job leaving anxiety tremedously. 2. It is very difficult discharging a whole bunch of people all at the same time, still good practice for placements while on training. 3. I can't wait to start the cou...

Re: MSc Psychological Therapy in Primary Care 2016

Thanks! And I had the same debate as I live in Edinburgh - I was lucky enough to get an NHS Lothian placement, but if you drive then Fife, Glasgow and Tayside would be almost commutable. It's so difficult having to negotiate all this potential moving about - good luck to all of you :D
