Re: GBC - BPS letter

I'd be more likely to screenshot the email, or print the email out and scan it in as pdf. Just my gut instinct that that is less likely to be challenged than a word doc which could easily be edited.

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. Really enjoying placement number 2, and the clinical work hasn't even started yet (hoping that doesn't change my opinion of the placement too much) 2. Cannot believe how containing it is to have an actual desk to call my own rather than hot desking! 3. I am in such a different place personally an...

Re: Zero Hour Contract

That's pretty much what I did. It was a little easier for me because I worked during holidays so I knew I worked 40-60 hours a week for how ever many weeks there were across xmas, easter and summer holidays from uni. I think I assumed (45 hours x the number of weeks) divided by 52, and then noted in...

Re: Only applying to one course centre

More people than you might think do this, because of the age people are at when they finally feel ready to apply there are plenty of people who have already settled and have houses/families/partners that they can't uproot, so they only apply to one or two nearby courses. Also, I seem to recall that ...

Re: Pre-Doctorate Ideas

I did the travelling thing and was very happy that I did, but I also took the time to do as much walking and enjoying the area I was in which was especially nice for me because I relocated for training, so it was good to get my fill of the countryside before moving to the Midlands.

Re: How essential is life experience as a trainee?

The reality is that no matter how old you are when you get on training you are going to meet and work with clients with different life experiences to you, it's something everyone will come across. I was 27 when I started training, I've never been married, I don't have children, I don't have a chroni...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

Well done to sweetpea and jlb, and absolutely echo the advice about taking a break. I took a month off before starting training and 2 weeks of that was spent backpacking round Japan: best decision I ever made!!!

Re: Undergraduate stats help

Going to echo the shouts for Andy Field and his Statistics Hell website. Also, if you search him on youtube you can find some of his lectures in addition to some SPSS videos he does. One thing I will say is that if you're anything like me then when a worksheet gives you an example dataset you kind o...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. My mood is all over the place these last few weeks! 2. Self care got thrown out of the pram in favour of self destruction for a few days, but getting that back on track now 3. My friends are a lot more understanding than I give them credit for 4. Possibly should have taken some time off, but posi...

Re: Bath Academic Ability Score International Equivalence

Thanks for this info Bell. I'm on training now but I find it really interesting. I was put off from applying for Bath because of their use of A levels - I realised that my MRes would be cancelled out if I was up against someone who had a couple of As at A level compared to my BBB. Funnily enough tho...

Re: Exeter 2017

Hey! Anyone got a place at Exeter and moving? My placement base in Barnstaple so just wondering what others are thinking about where to live etc I'm thinking of basing myself on Exeter and commuting to the placement. Living in barstaple sounds potentially dull. :) Thought I'd wave at you cos though...

IOPPN RHUL --> RHUL UEA --> UEA (got to 9th reserve) UCL Going to take a bit of time away from the forum, to give myself a well earned break. Really wanted this. Big hugs for you, make sure you look after yourself, it's such a tough road and you deserve some compassion and praise for doing as well ...

Goal setting resources

Hey guys, don't know if anyone else struggles with this but I find it really difficult helping people identify therapeutic goals. It is something I've taken to supervision and I do use the magic questions and SMART goals and those bits. Just wondering if people have particular favourite techniques/r...
