Desert Island music compilation

Post by maven » Sun Apr 22, 2007 8:25 pm

If you could only have 12 tracks of music with you on a desert island, what would they be?

Try to do it off the top of your head based on what you have listened to recently. Hopefully if people like one or two of your choices, they can check out some of the others on myspace :)

For me:
1) Christopher's River - Biffy Clyro
2) State of the Union - David Ford
3) Hit - Sugarcubes
4) Chasing Cars - Snowpatrol
5) Every Time you Touch me - Moby
6) Mathematics - Cherry Ghost
7) Somewhere only we know - Keane
8) Stain to never fade - Easyworld
9) Brickbat - Billy Bragg
10) Charlotte - Airtraffic
11) Creep - Radiohead
12) Lucky - Bif Naked

Here are my 12 desert island scenario tracks off the top of my head. I chose songs that would put a smile on my face and trigger some happy memories as there won't be much else to keep my spirits up on a desert island!

1.) Martha’s Harbour – All About Eve
2.) Hey Ya – OutKast
3.) Get Some Sleep – Bic Runga
4.) Take on Me – A Ha
5.) Secret Smile – Semisonic
6.) Mr. Brightside – The Killers
7.) Staalfar – Sigur Ros
8.) Yesterday – The Beatles
9.) Black Horse and the Cherry Tree – K T Tunstall
10.) Groove is in the Heart – Deee Lite
11.) I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor – Arctic Monkeys
12.) I Say Nothing – Voice of the Beehive

Oh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one!

In no particular order....

1. Leaving On a Jet Plane- PJ Harvey and Bjork
2. Time of my life- Greenday
3. What a Wonderful World- Louis Armstrong
4. These Streets- Paulo Nutini
5. Heal Over- KT Tunstall
6. The Cedar Room- Doves
7. M57- Gomez (an extra track on the Bring it on single)
8. Set the Fire to the Third Bar- Snow Patrol
9. Oh What a World- Rufus Wainwright
10. More than us- Travis
11. I'm Gonna be (500 Miles)- Proclaimers (in case I get home sick!)
12. Summer in the city- Lovin Spoonful

I've found this really hard to do without access to my music collection. I feel like I may be being unfaithful to some of my favourite songs.
I have a feeling this list may change this on a daily basis
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. Dr. Seuss

I used to think that the brain was the most wonderful organ in my body. Then I realized who was telling me this. Emo Phillips

Tricky, I do this every year; On New Years eve, bending the rules going on. On Desert Island Discs you are only allowed 8. And then you have to choose one from that 8. But I will do 12.

Carey-Joni Mitchell
Tapestry-Carol King
May you Never-John Martyn
Boats and Birds-Gregory and the Hawks
Scar Tissue-The Red Hot Chilli Peppers
I will survive-Gloria Gaynor
Here Comes the Sun- The Beatles
Echo Beach-Martha and the Muffins
Somewhere over the rainbow-Judy Garland
Love Shack-B52's
Stand and Deliver-Adam and the Ants
Basketcase-Green Day

Just one? the Joni Mitchell one I think.

Good choice of song- I'm named after it!! 8) I nearly chose the Joni Mitchel song The River- it's such a tough choice!

Just looked over this list again and am off to youtube some of moony's tracks, as I like lots of them but haven't heard of a few...

Went to see David Ford live again, and was reminded what a brilliant poet/songwriter/singer he is. Also planning to see Biffy again ASAP.

Anyone else want to add a list, or an update?

off the top of my head, and likely to change within seconds....

Ripple - Grateful Dead
Dancin in the Ruins - Blue Oyster Cult
Set You Free - NTrance
Teardrop - Massive Attack
Deliver Me - The Beloved
Serve the Ego - Jewel
Smoke - Natalie Imbruglia
Thursday's Child - David Bowie
74-75 - The Connells
Songbird - Fleetwood Mac
Be Mine - R.E.M.
Burning for You - Blue Oyster Cult

Actually, they are pretty consistent loves, if I pick one for lifelong desertion? Then I pick Burning for You. Just blows my mind each time I listen, year on year.
