Reserve lists

Post by laydee89 » Thu Mar 12, 2015 8:04 pm

Hi everyone,

I thought we could start up a new thread for people to share news about the reserve lists of the courses. And maybe for people to share if they have declined one of their interviews so people on the lists have an idea if it is moving or not!

I'm now waiting for news about Teesside reserve list and would be really grateful for any news if/when people have it!

I doubt my reserve interview at Hertfordshire will materialise into an interview invitation, but I would welcome any news on interview cancellations for the Hertfordshire course. Interesting post on the Herts reserve interview list... viewtopic.php?f=32&t=15486&hilit=Hert+a ... e&start=30

Thanks so much laydee89 - great idea. There is another thread going but most of the posts are some years old. Given acceptance rates have dropped hugely in relative terms (2009 - 27% got a place; 2014 - 15%) it seems best to keep it current.

I really want to avoid speculation and excessive thought about things I really can't control (I stayed out of the 'what does a disappearing box on the clearing house site mean' thing for that very reason...) This process is stressful enough as it is. However, being on a reserve list is harder than I anticipated. If you had told me a couple of weeks ago I would have been so grateful to have even an orange, now I feel frustrated. I can't imagine how awful having a reserve place must be.

I am curious about how course centres decide the length of reserve lists. It makes sense obviously for somewhere like RHUL that interviews late to have a long reserve list. However, I am on UCL reserve and it is 29 long. I am surprised by that given it is the first of all the London courses to interview and a very sought after course. I can't see it ever moving more than 5 if that. Short of an outbreak of swine flu settling randomly on D Clin applicants scattered around the country and maybe the world I am baffled as to why such a long list. Maybe they just cover even the most ridiculous of eventualities...

To everyone in the limbo place - really hope your oranges become broccoli...

Great idea!

I'm on the Manchester list (no place number and one of the first to interview so not holding my breath!) and the Liverpool one - #10.

Fingers & toes crossed..

Hey, yes, I asked the admin lady and she confirmed my position on the herts reserve list. I'm in the middle of the reserve list by the looks of things, so not expecting an interview (herts interview dates 27th-29th April). Anniecat makes an excellent point about differences between years and increased competition in recent years. I highlighted previous years interview reseerve lists as I was curious as reaching this DClinpsy admission stage is completely unfamiliar terroriory. The lists seem to suggest some level of change and movement within some courses, although I think it's probably equally important to not derive comparisons from previous years due to heterogeneity each year with applicant pools, university selection criteria, varying course sizes and other admission related factors.

Anyway not going to dwell on it, if I'm offered an interview for Herts, then great, if not, then it's not the end of the world. Could be some cognitive dissonance going on here, but my outright interview invitations with other univerisies reflect a much closer match in terms of my academic interests and specialisms, so focusing my attention on these universities for the time being. I can't change or control my position on the waiting list, but I have some control on preparing for these interviews which seems a more productive use of my time.

Best of luck :)

Hi everyone, Great idea Laydee89.

First time posting. I am on the reserve for an interview at Salomons. Not sure whether to expect an interview from this?

I've spoken to Teesside and they aren't telling anyone what number they are on the reserve list or how many people are on it. I find this really unfair?! I'd like some idea of how anxious to get haha and how much effort I should be putting in to preparing the presentation that they ask interviewees to give. Gah! The stress continues!

Hello all :)

I'm on the Bangor reserve list - not seen anyone else out there on it yet, where are you all hiding!?

Obsv no real hope of it moving as they are first off with interviews but sure, you never know!

Good luck fellow reservists!

I was once on the Bangor reserve list (number 9) and I ended up at number 3 by the day of the interview (so didn't get an interview, but was surprised by the movement considering they interviewed first). So yeah, do a little prep just in case (unless you are really low down on the list).

For people on the reserve lists, do look after yourselves and try to stay positive. In some respects I'm sure this "limbo" is worse than an outright rejection. All I would say is try to stay focused and DO, DO DO prepare presentations etc!!!! There's always a chance you could get called because people turn down interviews for a whole host of reasons. There have been instances of people being called for interviews ON THE DAY so it's best to be prepared rather than throwing something together at the last minute. Plus, any preparation you do now will still help you next time around. Good luck to you all!

Hey fellow reserve listers. Found out today I'm a reserve at Edinburgh. Anyone else in the same boat, and does anyone have an inkling of how long the Edinburgh reserve list is? When I emailed back to confirm I'd like to stay on the reserve list I asked for an idea of where about on the list I am but I'm not sure they'll let me know!

It's going to be a long few weeks. Only bright side is that Edinburgh interview pretty late so fingers crossed there will be a few people opting out of interviews.

Down side is that I live in London so if they call me up on the day there's pretty much no chance I'm making it up in time. ;)

Hi guys,

Thanks laydee for starting this up. Can't understand a course witholding where you are the the list btw, that's pretty weird!

I'm on the royal holloway reserve list. First year applying so it's actually boosted my spirits a bit after 3 other rejections (there is hope!) Apparently they are going to tell us next week where we are on the list - I know they're one of the last to interview so I guess I might have a shot. It's difficult though knowing what to do though isn't it - best to take some annual leave in case of a last minute call? I probably will cause it's my boyfriend's birthday one of those days anyway. Lucky him with me potentially being a nervous wreck ;-)

Looking forward to seeing how things go for everyone on here as time goes on!
