PsycINFO wildcards showing LESS articles

Post by menojojo » Fri Nov 08, 2019 11:51 am

Trying to work out why I get less results in PsycINFO when I use wildcards.
  • When I search for School Refusal in all fields I get 1,017 articles.
  • When I search for School Refus* in all fields I get 894 articles.
Surely School Refus* will capture all articles that include School Refusal as well as School Refusing for example, so should find more or at least the exact same number of articles?

I'm not massively hung up on that particular search term, I'm just using it as an example. But I find this happens with a few search terms I'm using and cannot figure out why. I don't use quotation marks and don't have any limitations set on the searches.

Any ideas?
