Are there any Essex trainees here?

Hey,

I wondered if there are any Essex trainees on here who would be able to answer questions about the course?

Why not ask the questions and find out? We encourage the public sharing of information where possible, rather than requests for individual insights.

Thanks Miriam.

I was just wanting to find out a bit more than the alternative handbook/clearing house provides in terms of the general location of placements, whether this was solely in the boroughs of Essex as I also know that the course have placements at the Tavistock and wondered whether these were regular placements. I also wondered about trainees' general reflections on the smaller cohort sizes.

Hi,

I'm currently at Essex, happy to answer your questions.

1. General location of placements

When you attend the interview, you are asked where you current base is and the course try hard to allocate you a placement that is close but also will help you meet your learning needs. You can be placed anywhere in Essex though, depending on clinical need and supervisors. You can get a year-long placement at the Tavistock in your third year as a specialist placement. In the past Essex had a partnership with the Tavi but this has changed (however the placements haven't). You will have to interview like everyone else who applies.

2. General reflections on the smaller cohort sizes.

Unsure how to compare this to a larger cohort size, but we definitely are a close bunch. You learn who people are and make your own friendships within the group. Being only 11, you have enough space (physically and emotionally) to learn more about yourself, your cohort and your differences. Also means if there are ruptures in the group, you kinda have to work through them as it's so small (or not, and just keep your distance).

I hope this was helpful x
