Can I teach with a Dclin qualification?

Post by Sinead13 »

Helloo,

Once I complete my DCLIN, does this mean I am able to teach, or call myself a teacher? If I answered it, I would say no as there are primary, secondary, college etc teachers.

Does a Dclin let me formally teach and apply for undergraduate psychology degrees, masters, and doctorates?

If not, would I have to start again and do the PGCE?

Id' like to know what the extent of 'teaching' my DCLIN allows me to do?

thank you x

No, I'm afraid you would not be able to call yourself a teacher and teach in schools or colleges. You would be able to do teaching and training on D.Clin.Psych courses (indeed, this is often a requirement of qualified posts) but you would be considered an honorary lecturer, not a teacher. If you wanted to teach in schools you would have to do the PGCE.
